R. Parker 93/100 The characterful golden-colored white 2021 Mas Vilella Blanc was produced with the aromatic Malvasía de Sitges grape from one small vineyard on poor stony limestone soils, fermented and matured with the lees in clay amphorae and 20% in new and used 300- and 400-liter oak barrels for 10 months. It's ripe at 14% alcohol but has very good freshness parameters (pH of 3.09 and 6.15 grams of acidity). It has a savory nose reminiscent of chicken broth and a salty twist, with very tasty, clean and focused flavors. It's vibrant, with purity and a round, spherical palate, combining volume with freshness. 3,471 bottles were filled in July 2023.
Autocton Celler is the project from Albert Jane of Acústic and Ritme in Montsant and Priorat, and it marks the return to his hometown in Penedès. He makes varietal wines with no appellation of origin, made from local and French varieties and organically farmed vineyards. The Mas Vilella range come from his own vineyards. It's a small, 20,000- to 28,000-bottle project.
